Embracing Agricultural Change

Precision farm management

From precision planting to automated steering systems, the latest advancements in guidance technology are transforming the way farmers manage their operations. In the Central West, On-Trac Ag feels privileged to be part of the farming revolution. However, Precision Land Management specialist, Hugh Westcott, says that we still have a way to go.

“One of the key challenges that farmers face is making the most of their existing guidance systems. Many farmers are using outdated equipment or struggling to fully utilise the capabilities of their current technology.”

Still, Hugh expresses optimism for the future and suggests that with the right support and expertise, it is possible to unlock the full potential of these systems.

“I can come out and revisit your existing guidance system with you. We can look at guidance lines you think might be too complicated. It’s rewarding when we can program the system to drive the tractor around the boundary or obstacle by delving into the intricacies of guidance lines and automation features. Often these are things that the farmer was shown before but has since forgotten.”

On-Trac Ag is currently experiencing increased interest in upgrades to older equipment. Hugh states that upgrading older sprayers, spreaders, and sowing implements to ISO -BUS is now more accessible than ever.

And by all accounts the benefits are huge. Local farmers integrating these implements with advanced guidance technology, report better product application and seamless communication between the implement and the tractor. The secret is in the advances seen in task controller software. The results speak for themselves.

““One of the key challenges that farmers face is making
the most of their existing guidance systems. ” Hugh Westcott.

Recently, locals have had a lot to say about their new installs, and word is spreading quickly.

“Since we started making the switch to ISO BUS implements, the inside of the cab has cleaned up a lot. There’s less clutter and it’s so easy to navigate the universal terminal display. It makes switching implements over easier and it’s nearly as simple as plug and play. There’s less mucking around with controllers inside the cab. The set-up time has reduced dramatically. Being able to have section control and adjust the settings on the go has saved massive amounts of time. If you haven’t already, I highly recommend upgrading.” Orange Farmer

“Once we got the fundamentals down, we’ve been able to go into a paddock season after season and drive the same boundary guidance lines. The tractor will steer at the press of a button.” Bathurst Farmer

“Being able to set up my operations for the day from my home office and then sending it to the machine, lets me manage my operations efficiently. I can also review information in real time while my son operates the tractor. I can see all the applied products, load, fuel economy and so much more. It’s made managing and accounting for the business that much easier.” Cowra Farmer

Previously, set-up was such a tedious task that wasted so much time and effort. Now I can focus more of that time and effort on more important matters. Mapping and coverage are accurate and recorded. I can even do it at night! I’ve saved thousands alone in chemical that would have been wasted in the past.” Bathurst Farmer

Talking on maximising efficiency, Hugh reflects on the possibilities around data management and operational review that open when he introduces farmers to tools like New Holland MyPLM/AFS Connect Case desktop software.

“By using telematics and cloud connectivity, farmers can easily monitor and analyse their operations, making informed decisions to improve overall performance. This free desktop software, designed to work seamlessly with CNH factory displays, provides a user-friendly interface for managing farm data efficiently and effectively.”

“We can look at guidance lines you think might be too complicated.”
